Is my book in stock?

Yes. You can assume that the book you want is in stock, unless it is otherwise indicated on this website. Currently (17 August 2018), I have plenty of Gauteng books and Waders books, and the Kids book arrives in 3 weeks. Unfortunately, LBJs is completely sold out.

Can I buy your book in a book shop?

Generally, no. Because it is a self-published book with a relatively small print run (and I have to make a living) we don’t distribute widely to main book store chains. However, if you are in Gauteng, the Chamberlains Hardware stores (their website here) do stock the book. There are some small book stores here and there that stock it too, but the easiest is to get it via this website.

Shipping in South Africa

What are the different delivery options?

  • Aramex Couriers: Your book will be delivered to your door during business hours by a courier. Please make sure someone is home. You need to provide a physical / street address for this delivery method. For main centres, delivery is by 12:00 on the next day. For outlying areas, up to 72 hours. If you’re on a farm or in an isolated area, it’s a little more tricky (details are on their website).
  • Postnet: I send the book to your nearest Postnet branch. They will notify you when the book arrives, and you can then go an collect the book whenever it is convenient for you. This is quick and reliable – if you live near any of the 300+ PostNet branches in South Africa. To find your nearest branch, check out the PostNet branch locator.
  • SA Post Office: Aah, the good old Post Office. We can mail books to any postal address in South Africa. They will keep the book at the counter and notify you that it ready to collect. You have to go in person, as they will not relinquish the parcel to someone with a different name (even a spouse). This takes 1-2 weeks. We will provide you with a tracking number. May be the only option if you’re in an isolated area.

Will I get a tracking number?

Yes, you get a tracking number for each of the three delivery methods. If your book is not delivered for some reason we will gladly send you another free of charge, or refund you. But this never really happens.

What is the cost for the three delivery methods?

They all cost the same. R100 for 1-3 books. For bulk orders we will provide you with a quote for shipping. Please give us a shout on orders@faansiepeacock.com or phone/WhatsApp 084 514 8082 (Ronel).

International orders

Where are you based?

We run the business from home, in Langebaan, about an hour north of Cape Town on South Africa’s West Coast.

Can you ship overseas?

Normally we send books only within South Africa. We can send it internationally, but it is expensive. If you are really keen, get in touch and we can get you some quotes. If you’re outside South Africa, books can be obtained from WildSounds or NHBS in the UK, or Buteo Books in the US. That will be a cheaper and faster option.

Collect in person

Can I collect a book from you in person?

Absolutely! Note that I am no longer in Pretoria – I now live permanently in Langebaan on the West Coast.

It is not necessary to pay ahead of time or fill in an order form if you want to collect the books. There is obviously no delivery cost when you collect in person. You can pay beforehand if you like, but you can also pay with a card when you’re here (perhaps the least admin), or in cash. I do regular talks and courses all over the country, and I always bring books along to sell.

What if I want to pay beforehand and then collect the book?

The payment options includes a delivery fee of R100. But I will stuff a crisp new R100 bill in your hand when you pick up the book. Deal?

Bulk orders

Is there discount for big orders?

Yes. On quantities of 4 book and more we offer discount. Please get in touch via email (orders@faansiepeacock.com) or phone (084 514 8082) for details.

I am a retailer. What discount can you offer me?

Retail discount to stores, bird clubs, schools etc. only applies on orders of 4+ books. The amount of discount depends on the quantity. Please get in touch via email (orders@faansiepeacock.com) or phone (084 514 8082) for details.

How can I pay?

If you want to pay by credit card, use the grey buttons. This will take you to the payment portal of a company called Payfast. They are South Africa’s top online payment portal, and have all the security measures in place to protect you as a buyer. Please note that Payfast has nothing to do with the actual product – they can’t help with questions about delivery etc. Contact me directly.

You can also do an EFT. Please just make sure that you use a sensible recipient reference when making payment, so I know who the money is from such as your your name or phone number. It is almost impossible to track payments with references such as “bird book” or the like.

What are your banking details?

Pavo Publishing
ABSA, Vredenburg
Branch code: 632005
Account: 4084993558
Cheque Account
Swift code: ABSAZAJJ

Do I need to send a proof of payment?

You can email a proof of payment if you like, but as long as we have your details and a payment reference, everything should be fine. But don’t hesitate to get in touch if anything is unclear or if you have special requests.

Can I get a replacement / refund?

A very small percentage of books have some flaw that we might not see when we pack it. Or it might have hit a bump during shipping. If you feel this is a problem, we will gladly send you another free of charge, or refund you.

Follow up

What happens after I fill in the form?

Nothing. We will await payment before we send your book or get in touch.

What happens after I pay?

We will get your completed form, and see your payment. Then we bubble-wrap and pack your book, and send it off. This normally takes a day or two. But it may happen that we’re away birding, in which case it might take a bit longer. Either way, you are most welcome to call Ronel (084 514 8082) or myself (084 515 1207) or email orders@faansiepeacock.com for an update.

Special requests

Can you sign my book?

Yes, I sign all the books that we send out, except bulk orders.

Can you write a special message?

Of course! Just let me know who to make it out to, and what is the occasion. You can write this in the order form, or you can email us.

Will the ebook work on my device?

Yes. It is just a pdf file – not an interactive app. So anything that can open a pdf will be able to handle it.

How do I download the ebook?

After you complete the payment, you should be taken to the download page automatically. If not, please give me a shout and I’ll send you a link. Once you’re at the download page, click on the link and save the file. Then locate the file in your downloads folder and copy it wherever you want to store it.

Can I make copies of the ebook?

For your own use, sure. For example, if you want to save it on your computer / phone / laptop. But please don’t give a copy to anyone else.
